To pee or not to pee…

Published by Dagmar at 13:47 under What to bring

I’m a woman. And most of the time, I really enjoy being one. However, there are certain circumstances where I, and probably my fellow females around the globe are with me on this, look at men with mind blowing envy…

When?

Well, try a public toilet during, let’s say, a festival.

I can deal with the queueing part. However, imagine a one-square metre box where a million other females before you have desperately tried not to touch the seat, and you understand why in certain circumstances external equipment becomes a much desired feature…

Now, let’s take another thought example here. Imagine you’re crossing a glacier while the outside temperature is barbaric. Or you’re in your sleeping bag (nice and warm), while the outside temperature is still barbaric. The last thing you want to do then is first get all your gear on, and then have to half undress again to relieve the annoying pressure on your bladder.

So, external equipment is the key here, and if you’re not born with it, cheat!

How? Get yourself a Shewee! This is a small, portable device that lets you pee standing-up, without removing your clothes. I tried it out during my trip to Iceland, and it has now become a mandatory item on my packing list. They cost around 10 euro, are very robust and easy to clean. And I just found out they come in different colors (when I bought it, only white was available, which is, in retrospect, not the best color for snowy landscapes…)

Small warning: it takes some technique. All in all, it is not actually attached to our body, isn’t it ;)

Make sure you practice first at home in your bathtub :)
